Mahjong (not the game, the casserole)

I’ve been making this forever.  It’s from Aunt Nettie’s church cookbook.  When I first met Guy, he was pretty suspicious of casseroles.  Putting the rice on the plate separately seemed to reassure him.

1 pound ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cups celery, chopped

2 small green peppers (or one large), chopped

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1/8 teaspoon pepper

1 can tomato soup

½ soup can milk

1 tablespoon Worcestershire

1 can chow mein noodles

hot cooked rice

Brown meat and onion.  Combine with celery, peppers, seasonings, soup and milk.  Pour into casserole sprayed with Pam.  Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for one hour.  Sprinkle with chow mien noodles.  Serve over rice.
